A Gluten Free Guide to Perth by Madi Durgutovski
Content creator Madi Durgutovski gives us a taste of what Perth has to offer for the gluten free community
GUEST BLOG: Madi Durgutovski
As someone living with highly-sensitive gluten intolerance (undiagnosed coeliac disease*), eating out can often feel stressful—especially in group or social settings.
This guide is here to make your foodie life a little easier and encourage you to find joy in trying new food spots as someone with dietary limitations. This is a list of places I personally love, trust, and regularly recommend to fellow gluten free foodies. Perth has some amazing GF gems where you can eat with confidence.
Note that all spots listed are coeliac safe.
100% Gluten Free Bakeries
Perth’s 100% gluten free bakeries cannot be missed during your visit out West
Dough Street, Balcatta
This gluten free bakery is my go-to for pastries and focaccia sandwiches - their perfectly-flaky GF croissants being the best I’ve tried in Perth. Pair these gluten free delights with a barista-made coffee and your weekend plans are sorted. Be sure to visit with an empty stomach because you might just want to order the whole cabinet!
Panna Artisan, Palmyra
For a wide selection of fresh bread loaves, this gluten free bakery will have you covered—they mill their own grains and specialise in sourdough. From delicious pastries to basque cheesecake and chocolate eclairs, everything is delicious. The cinnamon scrolls were a true standout here, every item has just the right amount of sweetness.
Darringtons, Burswood
Get ready to indulge at Darringtons Pastry, a 100% gluten free and vegan bakery serving up an impressive selection of sweets while catering to a range of dietary needs. You can’t visit these guys and not try their famous vanilla slice - it’s a true favourite of mine. Check out their freezer for meals and pizza bases and stock up for your week ahead.
Quick Eats and Casual Dining
Spud Street, Leederville
Picture this: steamy, baked potatoes (white or sweet), loaded in a signature menu topping, or your choice of protein, salads and sauces. Spud Street is one of my favourite spots for a quick and nutritious lunch or dinner meal. Yes, you can load your own, but I feel it’s best to leave it up to the experts and order a signature menu topping. Nothing is off limits here as it’s a 100% gluten free venue.
Munch Box Lunch Bar, Bayswater/Balcatta
You won’t be left short on delicious quick gluten free meal options in Perth
This lunch bar is a must-visit for gluten free banh mi lovers! It’s quite rare to find a Vietnamese spot that serves GF banh mi—these are packed with flavour and loaded onto good quality gluten free bread. They prep everything in a separate space to avoid cross-contamination, so you can enjoy your lunch with peace of mind. Their crispy pork belly is a must-try, and each banh mi is made fresh to order.
Bad Love Burger Co., West Leederville
If you’re after gluten free comfort food, you’ll want to add this burger joint to your list. They offer gluten free buns at no extra cost, and everything they fry is gluten free, meaning you can have all the sides! From crispy fries to popcorn chicken, I felt truly spoiled for choice here. The staff are knowledgeable about gluten free standards and are always happy to help. With a fun, laid-back vibe, it’s the kind of place you can truly relax and enjoy.
Ramen Samurai, East Victoria Park
Finding gluten free ramen is rare (even in Japan), so when I discovered that Ramen Samurai caters to gluten free, I had to run there and try it for myself. Their dedicated gluten free menu lets you choose from a variety of rich, flavourful soup bases, that complement their authentic gluten free noodles. I enjoyed every spoonful of my black garlic ramen here…they offer GF gyoza as well!

Must-try dinner spots
Chakra, Inglewood
Perth’s gluten free-friendly Indian restaurant Chakra won’t disappoint for flavour or quality
Chakra is an Indian restaurant that truly understands gluten free. This family-run gem offers a welcoming atmosphere and a menu where almost everything can be made gluten free. They even make their own GF naan bread in-house, prepared separately each morning to avoid any cross-contamination. Preservative-free, quality ingredients means every dish is full of authentic flavour.
Moon & Mary, Fremantle
Crispy gluten free dumplings are rare to find…but not at this historical restaurant and bar, situated on what used to be part of the old Fremantle Prison. Moon & Mary has three distinct dining spaces, all of which deliver on vibes. We had the crispy dumplings with a side of fried rice and chicken karaage here and all dishes were packed with flavour. Their cocktails are a must-try too.
Light Years, Perth
Another Asian fusion restaurant with a gorgeous interior, but this time in Perth’s CBD. Light Years offers a fun menu bursting with flavour, so you really don’t feel at a loss if you’re eating gluten free. I tried their signature ‘Netflix and Chill’ cocktail and I loved it.
This guide isn’t just about the food; it’s about finding freedom, comfort, and joy in eating out and staying social. I hope these picks help you discover something new, whether you’re a lifelong coeliac or just starting your GF journey.
All spots mentioned are coeliac safe but please keep in mind that everyone’s intolerance/coeliac needs can be different. I’d suggest making your dietary clear to the staff at the venues you visit, just to be sure.
If you’ve got a favourite coeliac-friendly, gluten free spot I haven’t mentioned, send it my way, I’m always keen to explore more!
